Dr. Bettie B. Borton is a licensed audiologist who holds a BS degree with CED Certification in Education of the Deaf from the University of Texas, a master’s degree in audiology from the Louisiana State University Medical Center, and a doctor of audiology degree from the University of Florida.

She served as a clinical audiologist in the Department of Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) between 1990 and 1995, and provided patient care services in The Kirklin Clinic, where she was named to the “Circle of Excellence” as well as a nominee for Employee of the Year.

Dr. Borton has served hearing impaired children and adults and their families in a variety of settings for more than 30 years, including Bright Preschool for Hearing Impaired Children (New Orleans), Tennessee Infant Parent Service (TIPS), and as the director of the Early Intervention Program for the State of Alabama. She has also served as a visiting professor, teaching associate, and supervising clinical audiologist at Auburn University, as well as a supervising clinical audiologist at Auburn Montgomery. Dr. Borton was the founder and CEO of Doctors Hearing Clinic, a full-service multi-location private practice in audiology located in Montgomery, Alabama.

From 2002-2015 she also served as executive director of Montgomery Area Nontraditional Equestrians (MANE), a large non-profit therapeutic riding program for children and adults with disabilities. She has been honored as a 2010 recipient of the prestigious Oticon “Focus on People” award, named “Best of 2011 Hearing Healthcare Professionals” by The Hearing Review, and inducted into the National Academies of Practice (NAP) in 2015 as a Distinguished Provider, serving as Chair of the NAP Audiology Academy from 2016-18.

Dr. Borton has served on numerous committees, working groups, and task forces for the profession of audiology. A charter member of the Alabama Academy of Audiology (ALAA), she served as board member and the first president of this organization. She has also served on the Board of Governors for the American Board of Audiology (ABA) and is the former national chair of the ABA. Dr. Borton served as the president of the American Academy of Audiology from 2013 to 2014.

She was most recently employed by Audigy where she served as their national director of University and Student Outreach for several years. Bettie now serves as an adjunct faculty member for the AT Still Audiology program.
