What unique perspective do you currently have that will enhance the Academy board?

Position Statement

I love audiology! I have been successful in a wide range of professional roles—academic, clinical, research, and business development—which allows me to identify with the career path of so many in the audiology community. I truly know what it is like to walk in their shoes. The diversity of my experiences enables me to be an empathetic leader with considerate points of view. I want to use my skill set and knowledge to help build a strong future for audiology. As a member of the Academy Board, I would inspire others to become leaders, effectively collaborate with colleagues, and enthusiastically communicate our vision.

I am truly honored to be considered for Member-at-Large. I am grateful to be recognized for my years of practice and dedication to professional service. This nomination has come at an opportune moment, as I have the support of my employer and family and as well as the time and energy required for the responsibilities.

Biography

Hilary (Rosenstrauch) Steele, AuD, received a master of arts in audiology and hearing science from Northwestern University, and doctor of audiology from the University of Florida. Dr. Steele has enjoyed a diverse career with over 25 years of extensive experience as a clinician, educator, researcher and practice leader.

Dr. Steele was an assistant professor in the Department of Communication Disorders and Sciences at Rush University in Chicago. During her tenure at Rush, she was the AuD program NAFDA chapter faculty advisor and served as vice president of public relations for the Illinois Academy of Audiology. She maintains her connections to the Rush program both socially and professionally and still serves on the Rush University AuD Advisory Board.

Later in her career, Dr. Steele was a research audiologist at GN Resound and held a position as director of audiological research for Personics Labs. At the same time, she acted as a practice consultant for both hearing instrument manufacturers and dispensers.

She is currently the director of professional development at Miracle-Ear Flagship, Amplifon Americas. Her focus in this leadership role is to bring her clinical expertise and technical knowledge to practitioners and improve their success rehabilitating hearing loss with hearing instruments. These efforts have repeatedly generated year over year practice growth and has helped providers achieve better treatment outcomes.

Dr. Steele is dedicated to professional service and served three years on the Board of Trustees to the American Academy of Audiology Foundation (AAAF) and was the chair of the AAAF Development Committee. As a long-standing volunteer for the American Academy of Audiology, she has worked on several committees and subcommittees. Over the past two-years, she concentrated on writing and editing educational materials for the International Hearing Society, Distance Learning Taskforce.

In her personal life, Dr. Steele is a busy, doting mother of her 13-year-old son and adult stepsons. She loves exercise, staring at the clouds, binging television, and spending time with her husband, Jim.
