One-third of the Academy’s members are in university settings. Audiologists in academia serve a vital role – training the future of the profession. Through a variety of resources, the Academy supports these key stakeholders – both faculty and students – in its mission of advancing the profession.

NEW! Assessing Audiology Core Competencies Prior to the Externship Year

A high priority goal identified at the American Academy of Audiology’s Gold Standards Summit (GSS), formalized by a GSS working group, and then vetted by the Education Committee and the Board of Directors was the need to develop clear guidelines for assessing minimal clinical competencies of students prior to the final externship year.

In response to this need, the Education Committee developed an assessment tool that includes a list of core competencies and clinical skills that can be used to document a student’s level of skill acquisition not only prior to the externship year but throughout the clinical training program. The tool, referred to as the Audiology Core Competencies worksheet, includes a sample sheet showing examples and a fillable PDF sheet for your use.
