The Academy posted a news article last month about an FDA effort to solicit patient feedback specifically in the area of “treatments for moderate to severe hearing loss (implanted vs. other treatment options).” To that end, the Academy’s Government Relations Committee authored the Patient Survey so that practitioners could print the document and provide it to their patients. The survey document includes specific instructions so that patients can complete the survey and then mail their responses directly to the FDA.
The FDA is hoping to glean from this feedback whether patients prefer certain outcomes or choices over others in terms of their health. In addition, the FDA wants to understand how patients view the risks and benefits of a technology or treatment differently from how the risk and benefits are viewed by health-care professionals and caregivers and whether differences in patient perspectives are not well understood due to a variety of factors.
Patient feedback should be postmarked on or before July 2, 2019.
