Overview
Promoting research in the profession of audiology is an important component of the long-range plan of the American Academy of Audiology. In support of this goal, the American Academy of Audiology and the American Academy of Audiology Foundation provide research funding through the Research Grants in Hearing and Balance Program.
The American Academy of Audiology and the American Academy of Audiology Foundation wish to support basic and applied research in hearing and balance. Such research will benefit persons with hearing loss and/or balance deficits by improving the ability of professionals in audiology to evaluate and manage hearing and balance disorders. The American Academy of Audiology Foundation and the American Academy of Audiology will make grants for research projects with duration of one year. Grants of up to $5,000 will be made based on the merit of the research project and application. Grants may be made for basic research or clinical/applied research in the area of Vestibular with the grant supported in part by the Institute of Balance.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be a doctoral student working towards a doctoral degree in audiology or hearing science who is completing a research project as a part of their course of study.
- Must be a doctoral student who is currently enrolled in a non-profit tax-exempt institution in the United States or Canada, public or private, as this is where grant funds will be issued.
- Must be the primary researcher to conduct the research project under the advice and guidance of a mentor.

The 2024 Research Grant Application is now closed.
Applications for Student Investigator Grants include submission of an abstract (200 words or less), a detailed budget, a letter of support from a mentor, a human and animals use statement, and a proposal (not to exceed 10 pages, 12-pt font, single-spaced, including aims, background, significance of the research, supporting data, methods, timeline, mentor arrangement, and facilities).
