Led by the World Health Organization (WHO) safe listening and protecting oneself against loud sounds is the theme of the World Hearing Day 2022, March 3.
Audiologists have the power and the duty to spread the message about the importance of preventative care and timely action to prevent hearing loss. Not receiving prompt and professional care for hearing and balance disorders can greatly impact the ability to thrive.
According to the Better Hearing Institute, lifetime earnings can decline by 50–70 percent for those with untreated hearing loss. Individuals with untreated hearing loss also have an increased risk for depression (Li et al, 2014).
The Academy Foundation wants all people to appreciate and protect their hearing and balance. Giving to the Foundation means building awareness—through research and education—with the public and referring clinicians. Our continued message—evidence-based audiological care positively impacts outcomes and the patients we serve.
