About Us
Welcome back to the Pulse Tone! This is the fourth installment of the New Professional’s e-newsletter. You can find the last installment here. We know you are busy and receive many emails so we promise to keep this short but informative.
Wait a second—who is “we”?
“We” is the New Professionals Committee. We’ve been around for a few years now, and are tasked with identifying and promoting the needs of new professionals (NPs) within the Academy. Communication is a two-way street, and we want to improve our connections with all of our fellow NPs.
Wondering how to get involved with the Academy? Sign-in to the Audiology Community, and under the “Volunteer” tab, “current volunteer opportunities” for a listing of all that is available. Check it out or view the Academy’s volunteer page for more information.
Need to Know
- A new Peer-to-Peer Mentoring Program is being offered be the Academy, allowing new professionals to establish a mentor/protege relationship with a seasoned member of the Academy. From there, the new professional will be able to learn and develop leadership skills, gain new perspectives, and grow professionally. The experience must be in person, so a mentor should be someone that is easily accessible. Up to 0.6 CEUs (6 hours) can be earned per year from this program, and there is a $75 introductory application fee (per mentorship application). Do you feel like you would be better off as a mentor than a protege? Sign up to be a mentor to others! If you have questions, please contact Katy Sidwell.
- The Academy has provided additional information and explanation of their position of the Audiology Patient Choice Act (APCA).
Have You Heard?
- The 2018-2019 AAA Board election results were announced last month. Congratulations to President-Elect, Catherine Palmer, PhD, and the Members at Large, Samuel Bittel, AuD, Angela Shoup, PhD, and Kari Morgenstein, AuD. Kari Morgenstein is also a new professional and will be a valuable voice for new professionals at the national level. Check out this issue’s New Professionals Spotlight to learn more about Dr. Morgenstein!
- The 2018 AAA Conference in Nashville, TN has come and gone. In case you missed it, there was a brand new offering for new professionals – the New Professionals in Audiology Conference (NPAC). Speakers covered topics like professional growth, sticky workplace situations, and audiology history. Additionally, Speak Up, Speak Out had a panel of professionals available to answer new professional’s questions. Be on the lookout for these sessions to be offered again next year in Columbus, OH, and let us know of any topics you want to see covered.
New Professionals Spotlight
This is our continuing segment on highlighting new professionals and their career paths! This time, we’d like to introduce you to Kari Morgenstein, AuD.
